I actually do like Merzbow a lot, and also enjoy the 80's SJ. I listened once to the second 'comeback' SJ album (which I can't remember the title of), and thought it was great, but the sort of thing that I wouldn't listen to enough to justify actually buying. I remember hearing about the 'When Pornography is No Longer Enough' album a long time ago, in a heavy metal magazine of all things, and thinking that it was one of the funniest (in a good way) titles I'd seen in ages. I'm slightly scared off by having bought the two Bodychoke albums, which really aren't my speed at all, as well as some awful recent PE albums (which I won't name). The fact is, money isn't that easy to come by, and if I'm going to spend the import price for a CD, which here is roughly $25 US, it needs to be something I'll listen to a lot. Early Come Org, etc music gets me moving often enough to make it worthwhile, but not too much else in the noise/PE field. I do like box sets, though, as they save lots of running around

as well as some awful recent PE albums (which I won't name). Out of curiosity.. how come? As someone relatively new to power electronics, i'm interested in what people think of some of the recent stuff coming out and gaining some mainstream attention. I would be interested to know which recent PE albums you thought were awul..

gaining some mainstream attention? who? Wolf Eyes have been getting mainstream attention - er, they are on Sub Pop label .. I think it's fair to say they have been a sort of breakthrough act. For better or for worse. I'm ambivalent towards them at best.

I bought their burned mind album, i thought it was rubbish.Im not sure where it is anymore Yeh i dont get it, whats so special about them? May have something to do with that geezer from sonic youth championing them. Infact ill go so far as to say that wolf eyes album was total rubbish! Whitehouse sounds beautiful to me, wolf eyes (from what i have heard..) sound like a dog biting my leg.

i have heard a few wolf eyes albums, "slicer" had a couple of decent moments, but i thought "burned mind" was awful boring. i also had the misfortune of seeing them live once, it was appalling. possibly the worst gig i have been to, and i have seen / heard some dreadful shite in my time.
they are ultra-hyped, from both pitchforkmedia hipsters and wire psuedo-academics. frankly, it's dumbed down and derivative "noise" by - and for - rock and rollers.

ive heard other people say live they are awful. I should try and listen to some of their other stuff, before i write them off completely. But, from what i have heard its nothing to shout about and i just dont get why they are hyped so much.

I'm not ashamed to admit I rather like Wolf Eyes, I really enjoyed that gig in Camden earlier in the year with Consumer Electronics and Putrifier and they seemed like thoroughly nice chaps in the cafe before the gig.

Off to another topic about the music... Pardon me for being naive, but why would anyone (and hopefully not on this list) spend big bucks for Sutcliffe Jugend's 'We Spit On Their Graves' ten-cassette box on E-Bay? I remember reading here a while ago that someone won the auction for three figures on that tape set and it wasn't even the real artwork to it, which leads me as to why anyone would go for it when someone can make their own? Hence, caveat emptor. Makes the vinyl-bootleg version more authentic, no? Discuss. You can buy we spit on... 10 lp box set, for 600 euro at discogs. It's only 60 euro each ;D

The SJ WSOTG 10 LPs bootleg boxset is a real masterpiece : what a work to produce such 10 different LPs back in the early 90's. Got my copy in Belgium for less than 150 euros at that time, but it was rather a huge amount for these times !
