The treacher collins syndrome photo is really sad  that shit breaks my heart. I cant help but think you posted it for shock value, rather than something to make us think and realise how fucking lucky we are. |

Swap.avi was for shock value (and I presented plenty of warnings so that you'd understand just what you're getting into). That particular link, like the links to the stories of 'Kitty' Genovese, Sylvia Likens, Tara Calico, and such, wasn't posted for 'shock' purposes (although if one was to view the site, and conclude it was shocking, that says something more interesting about said person). If anything, those particular situations are unfortunate at best (The girl with TCS lives the life of a normal five-year-old girl otherwise; she just doesn't have a face, and it'll be hard to tell if future interactions with fellow people will become something monstrous for her), and tragic at worst (Genovese and Likens). It's sort of interesting that you actually posted this sort of reaction on this board. While it is one thing to sit and revel in human death without actually caring at all about the people involved (Ogri...I MEAN Liveleak, anyone?), I don't see anything wrong with confronting very human situations (She is, after all, an actual human being, and it'd be shameful to shoo her away for depressing you or anything like that). Keeping in mind that we're discussing this on the board of a band that used to put those Sotos collages on their albums for very valid reasons. To sum: The sites about Treacher Collins Syndrome and such weren't posted for shock value. That would be the Kirk Johnson, Mr. Hands, and SWAP.avi stuff. Edit: In response to: I wasn't intending to GIS stuff like 'DEAD BABY BLOODBATH AWESOME'. Less that, more 'subincision', 'degloving' and 'Veronica Moser'. |

I think we know what life has in store for her...the world is getting even more image obsessed. I work as a mental health nurse,ive seen a lot of things. Ive had patients kill themselves because of disfigurement.People who look differnt are trated like shit by society, most people who look "differnt" will have had abuse,insults etc by strangers. I just think people should be a little sensitive. We all know the world is obsessed with the way people look, with the internet, myspace etc people are becoming even more self obsessed . you just have to look through myspace profiles to see the disgusting (in my opinion) vanity that is on offer.
Sorry for the venting.
I shouldnt have assumed it was for shock value sorry, for this i'm sorry.

No, your reasons for venting are plenty fine, and understandeable.
I posted it for the very reasons of acknowledgement of what the future may very unfortunately have in store for her. Her life is alright at the moment, while she's young, and her peers don't hold anything like that against her.
