Will there be any future installments in this series or is it now finished?
Thanks.

there may be future editions, indeed I would like there to be, but the challenge is getting enough variety to make a great single album - there's just so much pointless generic noise around that it's harder and harder to find the good stuff
WB.

Come to think of it, I kinda had some misgivings about the tentative Extreme Music from Israel collection. I'm probably gonna sound "politically incorrect" here but I've been uneasy about the Israeli treatment of the Palestinians (which is obvious), not to mention the power that the Israel Lobby has over American politics, etc.
Aside from that I was kinda looking forward to the collection because through My Space I did hear some stuff from Israel that was excellent, though it still made me ambivalent about it. I know alot of people talked about how Monotonics or whatever they're called are such a great band live but they remind me too much of the White Stripes -- besides which I haven't been able to see them because everytime they played out I was a bit skint... Of course I still have nightmares about EMFI containing political shit like Barzel, who aren't even from Israel anyways. I can't imagine what's more hokey, Barzel's neo-con crap or Brethren's nazi crap. (I find both quite despicable actually...)
Oh yeah, and Israel isn't really the place for modern art, is it? They try too hard to be American. Stuff like sticking bottles of Jewish wine up their asses as though they're saying "See? We're just as degenerate as you!"

Kinda doubt many 'extreme music artists' would be in the IDF, let alone agents of political influence. Just as it would be a tad strange to regard you, as an Amercan, of being complicit in Abu Ghraib!

I can't imagine what's more hokey, Barzel's neo-con crap or Brethren's nazi crap. (I find both quite despicable actually...) If I'm in a nihilistic mood I can find both vicariously amusing - it was a stroke of sick genius by that trouble-making Finnish guy who does Degenerate mag to feature juxtaposed interviews with these goons in one of his issues. Brethren whining about how he wishes he could find a girlfriend into racist power electronics (do these guys have any idea how pathetic they sound?) and Barzel sounding quite simply insane & deeply misinformed were equally entertaining in a grim kinda way.

Well I've gotten the debut releases of both acts, and both are solid but the politics just turn me off in both cases. The Brethren release was definitely pathetic when (forinstance) he mocked out jazz music by playing random piano notes. (I don't think he's ever listened to jazz -- that's just a part of his stupid prejudices.) Also that anti-gay piece sounds just like gay disco to me (believe me as a gay man I know what I'm talking about...), which makes me think this jerk is a closet case, as much as that bonehead bouncer I've had altercations with years ago...
There's definitely something alot more disturbing about Barzel though. It makes me think about groups like Protest Warrior, Free Republic and other reactionary, Israel Lobby-leaning mobs. I almost went nazi myself after hearing about such people, but after hearing Brethren I pretty much realized that's not the way to go either... (I'd probably have to revert to the closet if I did anyways...)

That reminds me...what ever happened to Red Anais? I remember her being one of the artists that were to be featured on the currently-postponed Extreme Music From China compilation and also on Vice Magazine years back...

Kinda doubt many 'extreme music artists' would be in the IDF, let alone agents of political influence. Actually, all Isralies have to do military service as far as I know. 3 years for men and 2 for women. As in the U.S., though, the number of people deserting military duty is reportedly at a record high. While we are on this subject, I wonder what everyone thinks of the Antifrost label's ban on shipping their products to Israel (I think this may still be on their website)- as if every citizen of Tel Aviv had some personal culpability in the present geopolitical disaster. Seems to me that if they really wanted to make a statement, they would ban sales to the U.S. as well on the grounds of "our" endless flow of military aid to support the Likud party line. But, as I suspect, the audience for Antifrost releases is slightly larger in the U.S. than in Israel, and so a self-righteous posture in this regard costs them about as much as a ban on shipping to Greenland would.

Doesn't sound fair... Antifrost -- are they a distributor of black metal or something?

Doesn't sound fair... Antifrost -- are they a distributor of black metal or something? No, they mainly deal in loud / extreme computer-based music and electroacoustic stuff- think something like Zbigniew Karkowski or Daniel Menche.
