i really REALLY hope not. i can't think of a bigger waste of time in my life than that mess of a festival in that overrun, hipster-infested city.
SXSW means the following:
1. no parking WHATSOEVER (forget the fact that austin is ALREADY the hardest city to find parking in the USA)
2. ridiculous cover prices. (you can either pay for some ridiculuos $150 "pass" that will get you into any club on 6th street, but if you only want to see a couple of bands who happen to NOT be playing in the same venue, then you have to pay for each INDIVIDUAL entrance into a different club)
3. hour long wait in lines to get into a club so you can watch a single band play for 20 minutes.
4. all hotels booked indefinately.
5. scumbag A&R guys from every single major label you can imagine, running rampant, not to mention the hordes of whiney, doucebag rock journalists from SPIN, rolling stone, and every other throwaway payola dish rag magazine that you can imagine, crowding everything up.
6. also, i'm sure all my texan noise brethren will agree: there is no way in hell we're paying $5 for a cup of lonestar beer.
i literally could not think of a bigger waste of whitehouse's first TEXAS performance [*i'm assuming that's a correct statement?] than at that festival.
EXPOSURE-wise, i'm sure its great, and i bet its a lot more financially feasible as well, which is probably what's more important, but still.....eh.
what's wrong with houston or dallas? we have a fairly good noise scene in texas and i KNOW people from throughout the great state would flock to see whitehouse wherever if they knew that they would be getting a quality performance. i'd even settle for austin, but just NOT DURING SXSW. PLEASE.
