Whitehouse at Rothko was fucking amazing. The best show I've seen in 2005 (and considering the acts I've seen, that's saying a lot), and one of the best shows I've ever been to.
Since the Susan Lawly site hasn't posted it yet, here's what I recall from the setlist (incomplete and not necessarily in order): Ruthless Babysitting, Cruise (Force The Truth), Rock And Roll, Philosophy, A Cunt Like You, Wriggle Like A Fucking Eel, Munkisi Mukondi, Cut Hands Has The Solution, Princess Disease, Why You Never Became A Dancer, Movement 2000.

djgyn--i agree wholeheartedly. truly amazing show. and i think you have the tracklist as i recall (and which ones i know).
adam--do you mean bird seed and other recent releases, or the as yet unreleased material?
i did think it was odd that rothko was checking at the door who was seeing whom. is this standard practice for rothko, or might they have been scared at whitehouse's draw?

That didn't have anything to do with the club 'scared' of Whitehouse. Maybe just in case some just wanted to see Thurston Moore and didn't want to pay the full price. Or more likely because they had a DJ coming up afterwards and the dancing punters wouldn't want to pay for a 'rock', 'noise' or whatever performance...

gotcha. i definitely pulled out the hyperbole with "scared". wouldn't they have had to pay full price to see thurston moore, anyway? i found his/their stuff uninspiring, but in some sense they served a purpose--a pre-whitehouse respite, maybe.

that seems to be standard practice at clubs in NY. It happened to my band last time we played there... seems wierd to me.

Actually I really liked Thurston Moore's set, which is funny since I haven't even bothered to pick up the more recent Sonic Youth albums... By A Thousand Leaves I really felt they were losing it as a band IMO.

I love recent Sonic Youth. I cannot understand why 1000 Leaves, NYCGF, etc have been criticized. They are very, very good releases IMHO.

I was totally bored with Thurston Moore's set within the first few minutes. The rock star posturing (backs to the audience) didn't help the fact that it was really just boring guitar noise. Honestly, considering some of the great music that Moore has worked on, I was surprised at how disappointing this was.
