Final Destination 3 - right, thanks for bringing that overlooked masterpiece to our attention William.
Nostalghia - Great film, but again hardly overlooked - Tarkovsky retrospective at the NFT last year (or whenever it was). Doesn't seem to cover themes connected to Whitehouse either.
Wristcutters - some kind of American comedy.
In Plane Sight - 9/11 conspiracy theories, yawn.

Yes, I didn't quite get why 'Final Destination 3' of all films is to be found in the recommended films section, far more impressive (and relevant) films could have been included merely by looking through this thread. What was WB thinking? Then again, I believe the earlier mentioned film 'Suicide' isn't all that good either (perhaps explaining why the notoriously reviled horror company Vipco released it in the UK). Tarkovsky's great though.

I saw Final Destination 2 for free at an advance screening. You couldn't pay me to sit through the latest volume.

The Final Destination series are, to be fair, much more original and entertaining than the majority of mainsteam horror on offer these days and when you take a step back and actually look at the underlying premise for the plots they're acually quite clever...it's such a simple concept about the futility of trying to cheat death and it taps into one of our most primitive fears. There's a cruel irony to most of the deaths too. I'm terribly forgiving when it comes to the horror genre tho'.

finally saw Pasolini's SALO. in spite of all the hype I'd heard about it's severity I really did like it. should be of interest to some.

When I saw an uncut version of Salo at the Dryden Theatre (George Eastman House) I wasn't too impressed, although the memory of it has lingered in my head ever since. Thus, definitely a classic!

Anybody ever seen the movie "Lipstick"? I know WB is a fan. Pretty trashy by all accounts but seems to be impossible to get a copy, at least the last time I looked.

Not seen it or thought of it for years! Was once a staple of late night TV. Very seventies, very jaded/amoral/sleazy, the sort of thing which seems more shocking today than it was at the time. Anybody ever seen the movie "Lipstick"? I know WB is a fan. Pretty trashy by all accounts but seems to be impossible to get a copy, at least the last time I looked.

Seems to be pretty easy to get Lipstick now on DVD after checking amazon - whether it's uncut or whatever I don't know.
So.. has anyone seen 'Hard Candy' here? If so what did you think? Maybe it's a bit too mainstream to mention here (whoops, there goes even more karma points...) but personally I thought this was fantastic. Very good script and fantastic acting. I watched Todd Solondz's 'Welcome to the Dollhouse' the other day and thought that was pretty fun.

Watched Combat Shock the other day based around what had been said here and have to say, was mightily impressed. Not what I've come to expect from a Troma film at all (Maybe excluding the bit where the baby gets stuck in the oven). It's got a real gritty, desperate feel about it that you'd struggle to recreate with a bigger budget.

I took my 19 year old stepdaughter to see Hard Candy the other week, not bad at all but certainly not as extreme as it was hyped up to be...but then, are they ever?

In the UK at least, "Hard Candy" is being marketed as a thriller/high octane-drama or whatever. I think the extreme tag is something of a selling point considering the way it's being advertised. One of the few movies doing the rounds I do actually do want to go and see 'though.
