Ken Park:
very worthwhile, I think. no real story, rather separate snaps of three kids abused by adults in three very different, serious ways. not so big on Larry Clark as a filmaker, but KP had more the feel of his photos than his other films I think. Some very touching scenes in that film. also, I do think Harmony Korine is a fairly talented screenwriter (and dir. for that matter--Gummo, Julien Donkey Boy are recommended). ( soundtrack to Gummo includes Burzum, eyehategod, if anyone here cares. )

Last House on Dead End Street has a very interesting soundtrack which reminded me of WH - lots of experimental noise and sound fx.
Also of course the movie itself is pretty infamous. The Manson family as drugged-up film students. An excellent DVD set is available in the US - region 1

The All Night Long Trilogy is pretty brutal, especially the second one with its homosexual shenanigans and unflinching sadism. Decasia looks interesting, must check that out.
I mentioned this before but the film "15" by Royston Tan is well worth seeing I think. Similar to Larry Clark's Kids, it's a Singaporean film about five rebellious teenagers who live on the edge of society (filmed using actual gang members). The film is really assaultive on a visual level in relation with the world the kids live in; when they're not singing along to J-pop in mini music videos or engaging in fight scenes complete with flashing computer game graphics and sfx, they're trying to find the best place and way for a friend to commit suicide with grisly cartoons for accompaniment, or cutting themselves for the camera (this bit, like a number of other squeamish scenes in the film are completely real and filmed intrusively on camcorder). Quite a powerful film I thought and well worth the time invested in it, I think its available on DVD both in the UK and the US.

Excellent to see a Jess Franco reccomendation, he doesnt get enough credit.
these might be obvious but Shinya Tsukamoto's Tetsuo: The Iron Man and Tokyo Fist are increadibly bleak and powerful films.

LONG WEEKEND-don't really have 'WH' in mind with this one, though the sparseness building to a crescendo of sounds of nature striking back will stay with you. TOUCH OF HER FLESH-Richard Jennings' philosophy is right out of PETER KURTEN. Kern/ Lydia Lunch-FINGERED How about David Cronenberg? LOST PARADISE
aka SEPPUKU!
Japan 1990
Directed by: Akita Masami (= Merzbow)
Cast: Asako Mochizuki, Chimuo Nureki, Toshiro Hasegawa, Yuri Sunohara...
Running Time: 34 min.
After reading the book EROS IN HELL – SEX, BLOOD AND MADNESS IN JAPANESE CINEMA (1998, by Jack Hunter) about two years ago I couldn’t stop thinking about a certain movie featured in the section ‘Ultraviolence’. There, on the pages 154 to 155 – after Gaira’s (= Kazuo Komizu) SHOJO NO HARAWATA (GUTS OF A VIRGIN, 1988) and before the mondo shockumentary DEATH WOMEN (199?) – he reports about a movie called LOST PARADISE and includes five pictures that are hard (if not impossible) to forget. After months after months of searching for this ominous film I finally tracked it down. Was it worth it? I honestly don’t know. Fact is that LOST PARADISE is a one-of-a-kind experience that even succeeds in outdoing the GUINEA PIG movies…
LOST PARADISE is extremely hard to find. Chances are that you rather find a penguin in a solarium than a copy of LOST PARADISE on tape. After a long search I finally tracked down a bootleg tape from the USA which seems to be of 5th or 6th generation. Needless to say the picture quality is awful but it is enough to see what’s going on. This probably adds to the overall realism and makes the viewing all the more shocking.
There’s a second movie on the tape which I suppose is SENSEI SEPPUKU (1990). In this 42 minutes long film we can see two girls committing seppuku. It seems they are pursued by someone and seppuku seems to be the only way to escape them. Anyway, this is by no means as graphic as LOST PARADISE. It’s basically the same without the spilled guts and the ingenious soundtrack, and the director (I have no information who directed this; Akita Masami stated in an interview that he only directed one seppuku video) tried to film it in an even more erotic style than the infamous pendant. To say it is boring would be a bit of an understatement.
Entertainment: 0 (out of 10)
Splatter: 10 (out of 10)
A harrowing experience without the slightest entertainment value! Extremely sick stuff!

anyone seen Hole In My Heart (Lukas Moodysson)? fairly graphic film about amatuer porn and shitty family dynamics. roman shower and labia surgery! also has a noise soundtrack. saw it two days ago but wasn't too thrilled actually. in any case: noise and gnarly family style sex, so it may be of interest.

I meant to see this when it was playing at some indie theater downtown, but I missed out. Hopefully I can catch it on DVD.

Watched Ken Park, very good film though sadly censored on my dvd (but then, it only cost £5 so who's complaining?). I agree with sharpsmith, Harmony Korine's a talented screenwriter for sure. I read about his "Fight Harm" film the other day, pretty wild... Also loved hearing the Shaggs on the soundtrack.

On a related note, I guess Larry Clark's film "Kids" might be of interest to some people here. And - to make another link here - I got "Ken Park" the other day too but still need to watch it. I'll let you know whether it's worth your time. i have yet to see KEN PARK; i unfortunately haven't really heard too many good things about it. i like larry calrk, but he seems to be stuck paddling in the same piss-ridden part of the kiddie pool. his film BULLY is utterly fantastic however.

The Manson family as drugged-up film students. An excellent DVD set is available in the US - region 1 I'm a big fan of Last House On Dead End Street and actually prefer it to Last House On the Left. Joe D'Amato's schlock horror films are worth a look too. I recommend Porno Holocaust for a visual treat of seedy 70's style porn combined with slapstick gore.

Having seen and loved Last House on Dead End Street in the usual scratchy nth gen video copy, I'm really loath to watch the DVD in case the appeal is blown.
I recently saw a 70s Nazisploitation Italian porno 'SS Bordello' which reminded me of the early Come Org material in some ways. A lot of the infamous 'Nazi nasties' eg SS Experiment Camp are simply terrible films with very little to recommend them apart from the fact they were banned...
No mention of Jamie Gillis here yet?
