Post your highlights for the year and remove/add any categories you want MusicApart from the excellent Whitehouse and Consumer Electronics vinyl the only other album I enjoyed was Diamond Eyes by Deftones. I also saw a couple of good live shows in Sydney: Surgeon and Oren Ambarchi. MoviesThe White Ribbon (2009 release but wasn't screened here until this year) Lola (another 2009 release screened this year) The Social NetworkWake In Fright (2009 DVD reissue) I'm also really looking forward to seeing Blue Valentine when it begins screening here this month. BooksHow It FeelsArtI really like the art of Stacey Rozich, which I first noticed this year. TheatreSix Characters In Search Of An AuthorFoodWas lucky enough to visit Penang, Malaysia, and have my friend and her parents (who live there) take me to their favourite hawker stalls over 4 days, where I was stuffed with delicious, cheap food and drinks. I also indulged in a visit to a restaurant called Quay.

Music:
This year i discovered Electroacoustic and Acousmatic music after hearing part 2 of the annual Cut & Splice music show broadcast on radio 3, this concert, which music is remarkably similar to noise, often focuses on the recent (upcoming?) death of analogue and how radio can be used as an instrument as well as a listening device. I find Robert Normandeau's music to be most interesting, you should check it out. I have also recently become interested in Jazz (mainly Charles Mingus's later works).

I have also recently become interested in Jazz (mainly Charles Mingus's later works). You should maybe also check out also Albert Ayler (Love Cry is my favourite) and Coltrane's Ascension is a benchmark of jazz/noise... Earthling Tempel 'Pilgrimage to Thunderbolt Pagoda' and Astral Social Club 'Happy Horse' are the two best new records I heard this year. Best book I read this year was Norman Mailer's amazing 1979 'The Executioner's Song' which I finally found in a charity shop. Bret Easton Ellis's 'Imperial Bedrooms' had him back on form after the very disappointing 'Lunar Park'.

Best album of 2010 by a country mile (and maybe even best album of the past 11 years) Ceramic Hobs - Oz Oz Alice. Played it hundreds of times and it still won't leave me alone Honourable mentions also to Astral Social Club (Happy Horse) and Skullflower (Strange Keys To Untune Gods' Firmament)

Skullflower (Strange Keys To Untune Gods' Firmament) I am probably in a minority but I've found his/their output since the drastic change in direction towards diabolus in musica/black metal stylings circa '05 REALLY difficult to actually listen to. Much as I appreciate the (totally fucking insane) magical thinking and sincerity behind the concept - somewhat indebted to Houllebecq's reading of Lovecraft if I am not mistaken - I am more of a sucker for Matthew's most pastoral and drifty stuff life SF 'Transformer', Total 'Tanzmusik' & 'Silver Pillows', Sunroof 'Cloudz' and look forward to a return to this style. He is a great and genuine artist, one of very few in the world who've carved a new path without even glancing at the tawdry marketplace. Hope listening to our peculiar new album so much works out for you

Oh I forgot, 2010 saw IRM remastering their previous wax-only debut, The Red Album for CD.
Soulcleaner's peerless, I think.
