aphex twin's early works - such as the material on the two "selected ambient works" and "classics" collections - are fantastic, however the last decent album he made was "i care because you do" back in 1995. every release after that point, to my mind, becomes increasingly more filler packed, culminating in the abysmal "come to daddy" eps and an appalling album like "drukqs" which contains no decent compositions at all. it's pretty clear that in the mid-to-late '90s he realised that his trendy warp records fanbase would buy anything he put out, and he ceased in putting any real work into his releases. it was ludicrous to hear his fans praising the piano tracks on "drukqs", when those only sound good if one has never heard satie or arvo part.
at one stage in the late '90s / early '00s, the emerging breakcore movement seemed genuinely exciting, however it was remarkable how quickly it all just stagnated with absolutely no progression whatsoever. venetian snares is an absolute chancer, in my opinion, he was never the best breakcore musician that emerged in that time, but he managed to get recognition and set about milking his pretty talentless sound for all it was worth. he occasionally released some decent tracks, but considering his ridiculously large output (something which is not down to a strong work ethic but rather releasing every single thing he's ever done) it's not really all that impressive. quite frankly, anyone with a copy of reason and an average working knowledge of it can churn out exactly that sort of rhythmic wanking in an exceptionally quick time.
i think wolf eyes are shit, but i've already moaned at length about them on here in the past so i'll spare you all that this time round ;-)
atari teenage riot are simple embarassing. it's amazing how weedy and boring their supposedly "extreme" sound is. i do recall a friend of mine who toured with them years ago telling me how they used to fill up empty vodka bottles with water before going on stage, so they could swig from them and look tough. which sums it up for me!

Yeah I was only referring to the AFX of Classics and I Care Because You Do (which was not a classic and was carried by 1 or 2 killer tracks). Drukqs was a total blunder but it did showcase his sequencing abilities quite well. Someone needs to give Ricahrd some speed or something so he can just stick to the darker more cohesive jams he was pushing back in the day. Analord was a fucking joke and we all know that. After I Care, Richard's ADHD got terminal and he started to get obssesed with kids voices and "pretty" synth lines. That guy had so much creative potential but his output just seemed to degenerate into bargain bid pedestrian safe electronica, what a shame.

How many releases before the afro-noise thing starts to get a bit samey and stagnated though?? For me maybe 2 releases more then ill be really bored of it and itll be obvious. Someone on Troniks was saying how it was like whitehouse have already made the same album 4 times (which i dont agree with) but i hope they have other ideas up their sleeves! They blatently need to fuck about with some with trance synths or something. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlVav1yb-rowww.youtube.com/watch?v=SfogiqBfgts&feature=relatedMargaras- who in your opinion is the best breakcore musician then? Cos to me hes blatenetly the best. I think Drukqs was Aphexs best albums

Someone on Troniks was saying how it was like whitehouse have already made the same album 4 times (which i dont agree with) but i hope they have other ideas up their sleeves! ... I thought Racket was sort of a culmination of the whole sound based on African drums, as this album's arrangements seemed far more raw and skeletal than what Whitehouse had done on previous releases. After that, I have to admit I wasn't too impressed with the Afro Noise mix that could be heard at Resonance FM. While I still would love to hear that music at one of the Cut Hands DJ nights, it basically came across as "more of the same" (to my ears anyway) and I sure hope we're going to be exposed to some fresh developments of the Whitehouse sound in the near future. For me, the trademark Afro Noise production probably worked best when mixed with PB's lyrics such as "Dans" and "Bahnhof" instead of WB's, by the way. I guess I'm just not too mad anymore about that whole "psychological" ranting such as "Find out what you really want", "Find out who you really are", etc. In the long run, "Dyad" did next to nothing for me, whereas "Mouthy Battery Beast" still holds up as a very powerful song.
