Both of these are just perfect, and go along with the whole Whitehouse philosophy of taking things from different sources and turning them into something thoroughly *evil* I think the original context is actually more sinister than the WH versions myself - both sections of lyrics always seemed on the semi-comical side to me compared with the rest of the albums (each bit made me burst out laughing, WB's deadpan delivery helps) - whereas the actual seduction texts give me the fucking horrors - what's WRONG with those guys?!

"Ha-penis", eh? I hope women don't actually fall for stuff like that...

Yeah - I agree 100% with that - it's beyond bizarre that people would try to use that sort of thing in a 'seductive' way. I can see the humour in the way that WH use the texts, but there's also another side. The reason that the past 2 or 3 records knock me out is because they're concerned with Controlling language - of the potential to use language in a destructive/sadistic way, which is fascinating, because the fact that it's on a record or part of a live perfomance completely subverts the idea of using that language to 'seduce' or 'control' some random girl you picked up at a bar (for example). It's like taking the traditional pop singer's use of all the right hip movements, smooth vocal delivery and sensitive words (which are all aimed towards the same goal, of picking up and getting laid), and turning it inside out by coming straight out and using NLP and Scientology texts to achieve the same thing. The narrator of Philosophy isn't just using the "door" text to stop the tenth girl from pissing off on his as soon as they've seen what a shocking root he is - he's already a violent emotional abuser who gets to lay it on even thicker. It gets even better in Cut Hands and Killing Hurts, because you don't know who the narrator is. It's a damn deep subject, but endlessly fascinating for a certain type of person (and tedious or a dumb joke for the rest of the world).

I agree, and I think "Killing Hurts Give You The Secrets" seems to be similar to that too in the way it takes the essence of the seduction pattern but uses it for a different purpose. Just at a basic level (I'm no aficionado of NLP although it's something I'm going to find more information about), the 'Void pattern' seems to be used for seduction by making the female feel like they're lacking something, and then they find the solution to this problem in the slick, Master Seducer ;-) In my opinion what the song seems to do is provide no solution. It uses the 'Void pattern' as a starting point, and revels in building up the feelings of doubt and paranoia. Then it just ends, I guess leaving the listener to make something of it themselves, whether it's a wake-up call, a personal assault, something funny or whatever.

Ok , watch this get deleted you know what I think? I think a hell of a lot of WH lyrics owe some debt to Charlie Brooker on Tv Go home back in the day. www.tvgohome.com/2007-2001.html Don't get me wrong, I love WH, that's why I'm here. Next thing I'll be comparing them favourably to Steely Dan...

Joseph O'Conner & John Seymour's book, 'Introducing NLP' has the following examples of questions for auditory and kinesthetic construction:
"What would your voice sound like underwater?"
"What is it like to put your foot in a cold swimming pool?"
Perhaps they're commonly used examples.

Fuck me - those are great, and I reiterate that Whitehouse/WB took all of these random texts and created something ugly and fantastic and scary and fucked up for their own purposes. It's a form of art that doesn't really have a name yet, but hopefully will in the future.
