Greetings.
I'm curious to know what the party line is on the sampling of Whitehouse's music for use in other electronic music.
To clarify: I've not done this and nor do I seek permission to do so. I'm curious to know if this has ever been allowed, as my hunch is that it would not, and that WH would pursue those that did so.

it's not something that's often been asked; I can't see anybody being 'pursued' for it, but it's not something I can say I'd particularly happy about... though is there still a fashion for sampling stuff as there used to be?
WB.

Last thing I heard, the hip-hop scene was declaring sampling was 'dead'.
Anyways if there was anything I've always hated it was the sound of samplers in dance music.

Sampling may be dead for hip hop, but noise?

There's an Evan Parker track, Chorus After Alaric 1 or 2 for Gavin Bryars, that I thought Whitehouse had sampled for The Avalanche, but listening to them side-by-side I don't think so anymore. I can still hear a bit of a similarity there, but I can't really put my finger on what it is.

I've little interest in pissing on anyone's fire, so will wait till the material has been released before drawing your attention to the finished product - at which time you can make your own mind edit, drunken splelnig

it's not something that's often been asked; I can't see anybody being 'pursued' for it, but it's not something I can say I'd particularly happy about... though is there still a fashion for sampling stuff as there used to be? WB. As big a fan of WH as I am, it's difficult to understand WH's opposition to their music being sampled/bootlegged/imitated as much as WB and some WH fans are are considering the source of some of their material. The lyrics to "Dance The Desperate Breath" are essentially just plagiarised from the following site www.bio.net/mm/dros/2000-January/005301.html and this story by "Durbeen Tarfloe" off the anorexic rec-room - web.archive.org/web/20000229193854/www.anorexic-rec.com/Anorexic_Text.htm (parts are even word for word identical.) The lyrics to "Wriggle Like A Fucking Eel" "borrow" heavily from this story - web.archive.org/web/20000229122628/www.anorexic-rec.com/anna_k3.htm off of the anorexic rec-room. The lyrics to "Cut hands Has The Solution" are basically just a summary of the book "Wasted, A memoir Of Anorexia and Bulemia" by Marya Hornbacher. This line apears in "Cut Hands..." - "are you such a slug you can't live without a fucking sundae?" This line appears in "Wasted" - "am i such a pig i can't live without a fucking sundae?". Not a coincidence I'm sure, especially considering "wasted" is on WB's recommended reading list. Other lines in "Cut Hands" are clearly taken from different text off the anorexic rec-room site. Someone once pointed out the lyrics to "Just Like A Cunt" are based on Bob Dylan's "Just Like A Woman". Doesn't one of WH's songs "sample" the Deep Throat soundtrack? There are so many other instances of lyrics that clearly come from other sources than WB's own brilliant min. Being inspired by another artist is one thing, but WH themselves engage in outright plagiarism sometimes, were it not for some of their 'source material' some of their songs wouldn't exist. So sorry when I find it hard to respect WH/WB's dislike for being sampled/bootlegged/stolen from in any way. I used to think WH was the most brilliant fucking thing I ever heard, and I still do, but I've slowly come to the conclusion they're not as 'original' as I once thought they were. So boohoo if someone samples them, it'd be a taste of their own medicine.

I used to think WH was the most brilliant fucking thing I ever heard, and I still do, but I've slowly come to the conclusion they're not as 'original' as I once thought they were. There's also Andrea Dworkin's account of being drugged and raped in Paris (Princess Disease), the French TV expose of the Landmark Forum (Dyad), the Scientology Sec Checks (Cut Hands Has The Solution, Dumping the Fucking Rubbish), a Tracey Emin film/installation (Why You Never Became A Dancer). For me these obscure and always intriguing sources - some of which I first posted using the multi-user livejournal account sybil_b many years ago at the Whitehouse qualitytime community - were a joy to find and as long as I've been listening to Whitehouse the 'game' of spotting the references has been part of the listening experience. It goes right back to the Come Org days even, with the Sade stuff and 'Ordeal' quotes on GWD. For the new Extralinguistic Sequencing material, I'm guessing Fritz Springmeier's bizarre texts are an influence, but I may be jumping the gun here...
